Shrouded in legends and a beautiful Alaušas Lake is a real pride of Utena region and is the tenth lake of the country by size (area 1071.8 ha). According to one of the legends, there has been a castle on Maneičiai Mound belonging to the Duke Alaušas, which was standing on the eastern shore of the lake. The story tells that the duke really liked this huge and clear lake, therefore as he was dying, he asked to throw his ashes to the waters of this lake. People had followed his wishes and named the lake itself Alaušas after the duke in order to honour him.
the western part, in the long and narrow peninsula, intruding the lake, you can see buildings of Bikuškis Manor, reminding of the years, when Radvilos and Oginskiai were ruling the region. Suteikiai town, situated in the southern shore of the lake welcomes everyone, seeking some rest in the nature.
